Ingredients

Serves4
  • 3 ripe avocados
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (or lime juice if you have it)
  • ½ tsp salt, plus more to taste
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional but recommended)

1. Halve the avocados, remove the stones, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.

2. Add the minced garlic, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and hot sauce if using.

3. Mash everything together with a fork. For a chunkier guacamole, leave some larger pieces of avocado. For a smoother result, mash more thoroughly.

4. Taste and adjust seasoning — it likely needs a little more salt. Add an extra squeeze of lemon if it needs brightness.

5. Serve immediately, or press a piece of cling film directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning and refrigerate for up to an hour before serving.

Got a question while you're cooking?

e.g. What can I swap for paprika?
